6WBMO: Week One Update
I just completed week one of the Six Week Body Makeover, and I wanted to share my results. As you know, it was kind of a rough week–complete with an overnight trip to the ER. I didn’t follow the plan exactly–I had a dinner out on Wednesday, and wound up missing one cardio workout the day after the ER experience. My weight stayed the same, but I would typically gain 2-3 pounds this week for um… hormonal reasons so weight isn’t a great barometer for judging success at this particular point. I’ll rely on my 2-week measurements for a more accurate assessment.
Things I really love about 6WBMO:
- Cooking wholesome foods instead of eating packaged crap.
- Eliminating refined sugar and simple carbs.
- Eating every 2-3 hours.
- Carrying pre-made meals with me so I always have access to healthy food.
- The body sculpting program.
- Eating a balanced diet (protein, vegetables, fruit, and complex carbs).
- Not overdoing it with cardio.
Things I really don’t like about 6WBMO:
- Giving up salt. I realize that for some people–especially those with high blood pressure or a lot of weight to lose–giving up salt makes a bit difference in health and weight. But for me, who has low blood pressure and a current BMI of 21, giving up salt really doesn’t do much for me except take away something I enjoy.
- Eating protein six times per day.
I simply can’t continue the protein part of the 6WBMO eating plan. In the week I’ve been eating “on plan” (except for the one dinner), my energy levels have plummeted. I struggled to get through the same 3-mile jogs that were easy for me the week before. Pre-6WBMO, I usually ate animal protein 2-3 times per week–not 5 times a day. It just doesn’t seem to be working for my system. I know that I could (and probably should) give the 6WBMO eating plan more time, but to be frank, I dread eating and I’m miserable and I don’t see a reason to push myself to eat things I don’t want to eat.
I’m going to return to my mostly plant-based diet. I may try eating animal protein more often (5-6 times per week) and see how that goes. I’ll continue to eat the same portion sizes and combinations prescribed by 6WBMO, just without all the meat. I’ll keep refined sugar and simple carbs out of my diet, but I will have salt when I want it. I’ll stick to the exercise program of body sculpting and cardio as well.
So from here on out, I will not be following 6WBMO exactly. Please don’t evaluate the program based on my experience–a better example would be JoLynn at The Fit Shack, who followed it pretty much to the letter.
I’ll continue to post weekly updates on my progress. Have you tried 6WBMO (or any other weight loss program, such as Weight Watchers or Jenny Craig)? What was your experience?

when I was working to shed my saddle bags from gradschool I kinda created my own deal—-MAINLY because I LOVE what you dislike (protein :)) but all the high protein (finger quote) diets (unFQ) were low in carbs such as veggies and fruit.
oh and I LOVE THE SALT.
I know it’s terrible but DAMN it perks things up.
I definitely think creating your own twist on 6WBMO might be a GRAND IDEA!
I tried Weight Watchers before… with hypothriod problems, it became upsetting when friends were losing weight and my body wasn’t adjusting quickly enough.
Now, I don’t want to look at the weight. I want to try to eat better, get exercise and if my body adjusts, then it does. I just want to know that I’m doing something healthy for me and be happy wherever and whatever progress my body is in….
Hi Jen!
Omg, did you end up in the ER because of your intestinal problems? If so, then it wasn’t the Stevia, right? I’ve never heard of Stevia causing intestinal issues….
You know what - I never asked you what your weight and height is - are you trying to lose weight or only sculpt your body? People who have 10 pounds or less to lose do Not see quick progress with the 6WBMO. I know a woman who lost 80+ pounds and when she got down to the last 10 pounds it took her 7 Months - and that was following it to the letter.
Some people’s body’s just don’t want to let go of those 10 pounds. But I’m not sure it that’s your case or not…?
With that being said, and big part of the 6WBMO is only eating foods that you like. If you’re a vegetarian then I don’t think you should force yourself to eat protein. There is a vegetarian thread in the forums you could check out if you would like to get support from the folks who are doing that - I’m not much help in that area cuz I’m not a vegan.
You really have to go with what works for your own body. You are the one who knows best for yourself, and if you function better as a vegetarian then that’s what you need to do. It’s not the core 6WBMO program but why not make up your own program? Do what works for you - listen to yourself.
I hope everything is good now after being in the ER!!
