for some people it does seem simple, but what you don't understand is that empaths can't switch this on and of and it drowns us. There is so much emotions its like suffocating. It's okay to try and read body language, but you won't have the nature or the natural way to go about it. I am an empath. And i wouldn't wish it upon anyone. Be happy that you can't tell the true horrors. Be happy that you could watch horror movies without being physically sick, and be glad you can walk in big crowds without having extreme anxiety attacks because of the energy or power or even sheer amount of emotion laying on top of you. What I wouldn't give to be naive and think that someone who has never been an empath, can begin to teach people how.

Interesting practical exercises. I am working on developing a website on this thematic: empathy development and its application to various aspects of life: learning, business, environmental issues, cross-cultural communication,...

Contributions are welcome, you can contact me through the site itself: world-of-empathy(dot)org

Regards, Henry

Thanks for that body language link! I have been interested in body language for some time and have not dug into it as deeply as I should have.

I'm intuitive and read people before others around them do. It has helped me along the way.

I loooove reading paranormal and empath stories.

Great post!!!

I don't have good hearing, so for me, my focus is on the words that the person is speaking. This means that I miss a lot of details and the body language of the person. I like the idea of mirroring someone's actions and seeing how I feel in the same stance. I did the shoulder hunch, arms crossed and frown and WOW, I got the feeling. I'm going to try to mimic more often and be more aware.

Thanks for the post!

I am extremely empathetic, so much so that I lose myself in the process.

I am working on balancing that out, I focus so much on the other person that I miscount my needs.

I never realized how draining it was until I thought about my typical day. It's quite alarming.

I wish I knew I had to balance it more. Others seem to do it so well.
